Oral Hygiene - Preventative Care
Your oral hygiene is very important to your oral health. A thorough oral hygiene routine consistently removes the bacteria from your teeth and gums helping to maintain good oral health. Failure to maintain clean tooth surfaces and gums can lead to a deterioration of oral health which in turn, can lead to a variety of dental problems such as gum disease and decay. Bad oral health has also been proven to impact on your general health which can effect your quality of life (Dr Ron Ehrlich BDS, FACNEM, 2003, Holistic Dentistry, An Overview of the Issues).
A thorough oral hygiene routine should include the following preventative actions:
- Brushing twice daily
- Flossing daily
- 6 monthly preventative care appointments with your dentist. This includes an examination to identify and treat potential dental issues before they escalate and a professional clean to remove the hard build up of plaque that regular brushing can miss.
