Traditional x rays are becoming a thing of the past, and for good reason:
- They expose both the patient and team members to radiation.
- They are time consuming. Often the result is not known until 5 minutes later.
- They require chemical processing. – These chemicals are harmful to the environment.
- They are difficult to interpret due to their size. Diagnosis may be inaccurate.
Digital radiographs use only a tenth the radiation of traditional x-rays. No films or chemicals are used. The image appears almost instantly on the computer and can be magnified or clarified to improve our interpretation and diagnosis. These reasons are enough for Designer Dental Studio to exclusively use Digital Radiographs in all cases.
The necessary equipment represents a significant investment for the practice, but an investment we feel is very necessary to give our patients comprehensive and consistent care.
As well as digital intraoral radiographs, which are taken inside the mouth, we also offer digital full jaw radiographs. This type of radiograph is often referred to as an OPG. It shows the entire mouth including all the teeth, top and bottom, the jaw joints and sinuses.
In the past we would have had to refer you to Qld X-ray to have this taken, but now we can obtain all the information we need during your appointment. The full-jaw radiograph takes around 20 seconds and also appears on the computer immediately.
